community links
We aim to involve the community in school events as much as possible and to use the community to enhance the children's learning. We do consider ourselves as a true community school. We are a smoke free environment and operate a strict racial equality policy in line with the Wiltshire Local Education Authority guidelines.
We use the historic town of Wilton with it's fine church and Barford village to enhance our resource for Geography, History and Religious Education. We invite people to come into the school to talk about Wilton and Barford, their past and the changes which have taken place.
Over the past few years we have invited the elderly residents of Downside to attend class assemblies and events connected with the main Christian Festivals of the Year. The choir has also sung for the people attending the Day Centre for the elderly in the Community Centre.
Liaison Between Schools
Currently, the cluster of schools in the West Salisbury area of which Wilton and Barford CE Primary School is one of 9 feeder schools that feed into Salisbury High. We liaise with the other schools in the cluster very closely as well as with Salisbury High to ensure a smooth transition of phases of education for your child. Children from a school of this size rarely have difficulty in adjusting to life at Salisbury High.
Home and School Liaison
In order to establish a routine in the provision of information, the school will send a newsletter home on a weekly basis or you will be able to find it on our news page. Please check your child's bag and please read all letters. Parents are sent a formal invitation each term to come into school to discuss their child's progress. However, we do stress that we are very happy to see you at other times too. If you want to see a class teacher, immediately after school is the most convenient time. Please telephone before hand if possible. The Headteacher is usually available during the day but, again, it is better to telephone first to save any unnecessary waiting.
Pastoral Care
Your child's happiness and well being is of the utmost importance to us. We know that they will do their best and reach their full potential only where they feel safe, valued and cared for; with adults they respect and trust.
We are deeply aware of the responsibility we bear for your child during the school day. If your children seems worried or unhappy at school we would like to know so that we can take immediate steps to solve the problem. Also we would expect to be kept informed of events at home which may be causing distress. All staff is encouraged to be alert to children's mental and physical well being.
Please do remember that we are here to help you, so if you do have any concerns, worries or even praise, please come and see us. After all, your aims and ours are the same. To nurture a happy, confident child who wants to come to school and learn to the best of his/ her ability. Our aim is to set and achieve high standards in all we do. We see ourselves in partnership with you, the parents, in order to gain the best advantage for the children in our care. If we continue to work together who knows what we might achieve.
Ethos Statement
All members of our school are included, cared for, respected, valued and supported by each other. We strive to help our children become well-rounded individuals whose health and well-being are at the heart of our community within the context of a Christian belief and practice.
