The main role of the Governing Body is one of monintoring and evaluation to support the head and his staff. They help to set and reach targets and are concerned in the pastoral care, general welfare and good practice to the best advantage of the school.
The Governors have a legal responsibility to :-
- Ensure that the National Curriculum is followed
- Oversee the schools budget
- Monitor the condition of the school buildings and grounds
- Ensure that Special Educational Needs are met.
The Governing Body Is spit up into three Sub commities:-

There are several categories of Governor:-
Foundation ( Appointed by the school's founding body)
Local Education Authority ( LEA )
Community ( Appointed by the governing body to represent the comunity)
Parent ( Elected by parents of registered pupils of the school )
Teacher ( Elected by all the staff of the school )
Non Teaching staff ( Elected by all the staff of the school )
and Associate members ( Elected by the governing body, but do not have voting rights, )
All Governors have equal status, however they are appointed.
At Wilton and Barford the governors are commited to achieving an excellent environment for all pupils to enjoy their time at our school. They are focussed not only on educational achievment but on the schools other values,which are just as important.
Governors and the clerk carry out their duties mainly during evening meetings. There is oppotunity to attend training sessions and seminars to help them do their job effectively. The governors also go in to school from time to time to meet with the Head and other members of the management team and to carry out visits to classrooms to monitor the subjects they have responsibility for.
